About this class:
This striking beret and fingerless mitts set was designed to make the most of a set of mini-skeins of fingering weight yarn. You'll learn to make the African Flower motifs and put them together using the join as you go method. You'll use the V-stitch for the sides of your hat. The V-stitch is also used for the fingerless mitts, which are shaped with thumb gussets and feature a scalloped cuff that echoes the petals of the African Flowers.

Correct gauge is important to ensure the fit of the beret and mitts.
Make a gauge swatch as follows to determine the correct hook size for you.
Set-up Row: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, join with sl st in first st to form circle. 30 scs.
Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same sc as join, * sk 2 scs, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next sc; rep from * to last 2 scs, sk 2 scs, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4.
Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same space as join, * [dc, ch 1, dc] in ch-1 space; rep from * to end, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4.
Rep Round 2 twelve more times.
You should have a tube 4" long and 4" diameter (2" wide if you set it on the table and flatten the tube). If your swatch is smaller, use a larger hook. If your swatch is bigger, use a smaller hook.
