About this class:

The Estonian stitches of nupps, star stitches and clusters add texture and interest to your knitting.  Often found in lace patterns, these stitches can be tricky.  Join us as we learn a few different ways to work these interesting stitches while knitting a lace scarf.

Skills students will learn:  The basics of reading lace charts and some tips and tricks for working nupps, star stitches and clusters.

Materials - Materials for class are available for purchase at Cheers To Ewe! and are not included in the price of this class.  All materials purchased for classes are 10% off for students enrolled in the class.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Homework in progress.
  • Smooth, light colored fingering weight yarn.
  • Working needles appropriate for yarn - size 3 or 4 will work for most knitters. (Note:  lace tipped needles are strongly recommended).
  • Cable needle.
  • Crochet hook in one size smaller than working needles.
  • One dpn in 2 sizes smaller than working needles (optional).

Using solid, light-colored, fingering weight yarn, and size 3 or 4 needles, cast on 29 sts using Crochet Provisional CO.  Leaving bottom sts on waste yarn, work 6 rows of garter as follows: Row 1(RS): Slip 1 st purlwise, k across all sts. Row 2 (WS): Slip 1 st purlwise, k across all sts. Repeat these 2 rows twice more for 6 rows of garter, ending with WS row.   Leave knitting on needles. (Crochet Provisional CO: Using waste yarn and a crochet hook, crochet a chain several stitches longer than required for cast on.  Using working yarn and needles, pick up and knit cast on stitches along center spine of crochet sts.)

To make the scarf, you will need approximately 500 yards of yarn.
